Simon Cowell has partnered with the Australian special-effects firm behind The Lego Movie to develop music-based films for kids, according to the Sydney Morning Herald.

The X Factor creator’s production company Syco will work with Animal Logic Entertainment on a series of animated and hybrid animation-live action movies. The first fruit of their labours, as-yet-untitled, has already been picked up by Sony for distribution, according to Variety.

Animal Logic has also worked on effects for Baz Luhrmann’s The Great Gatsby. “We are thrilled to bring together the amazing talent, global reach and expertise in popular music of Syco Entertainment alongside Animal Logic’s rich history of innovative, cutting-edge animation and universal storytelling,” the Sydney-based firm’s CEO Zareh Nalbandian told the Herald. “I am confident our truly complementary collaboration with Syco will be a very powerful force in family entertainment.”

Syco Film was responsible for co-producing last year’s One Direction documentary This is Us, which was directed by Super Size Me’s Morgan Spurlock. The company also helped bring One Chance, a biopic of Britain’s Got Talent winner Paul Potts, to UK cinemas in October.

Cowell said: “It is a dream come true to have this opportunity of working with Animal Logic. I think their work is pure genius and I really feel excited about the films we are going to be making together.” He told Variety: “The music has to be current.”

The new partnership reportedly has 10 current projects in development.
